The Nigeria Prize for Literature: Press Release

PRESS STATEMENT

Lagos, Nigeria

1st September 2006

After five months of intensive scrutiny by eminent judges, The Nigeria Prize for Literature Committee has indicated its readiness to announce the shortlist of potential winners.

The Committee, headed by Professor Theo Vincent, will hold a world press conference on Thursday 7th September 2006 at the Ocean View Restaurant (Eko Hotel), Victoria Island, Lagos, at 10am.

Other members of the committee are Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo, Prof. Charles Nnolim, Mrs. Phebean Ogundipe, Dr. A.I.Adelekan, Prof. Dan Izevbaye, Prof. Zaynab Alkali, Prof. Rasheed Abubarkar, Mr. Dan Obidiegwu, Mr. Ben Tomoloju, Alhaji Abubakar Gimba & Chief Joop Berkhout.

The prize for literature rotates yearly amongst four literary genres: prose fiction, poetry, drama and children’s literature, while the prize for science will be awarded to the scientist whose work made the most impact in furthering the frontiers of knowledge.

This year’s award goes to drama.
